NACWA is collaborating on an EPA-funded study seeking perspectives of utility managers and decision makers on the effects of regulation on innovation and new technology implementation in the municipal wastewater treatment sector.

(October 31, 2017) - The New England Regional Pretreatment Coordinators Association (NERPCA) held its annual workshop October 25-26, with 150 attendees from public clean water utilities and state regulatory agencies.

Following NACWA’s annual leadership meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah last week, Association staff attended the Western Coalition of Arid States’ (WESTCAS) Fall Meeting in Tucson, Arizona.

The US Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report Oct. 30 examining the use of green infrastructure to control urban stormwater, particularly in the context of combined sewer overflows (CSOs).

The Farm Bill, a five-year bill authorizing federal programs, policy and spending regarding agriculture, nutrition and conservation, is up for reauthorization in 2018. The Bill presents an opportunity to advance collaboration between clean water utilities and the agricultural sector, and improve federal conservation programs that some clean water utilities are utilizing as a means to address water quality issues on a watershed basis.

The National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants: Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW NESHAP) was finalized by EPA on October 16, and the final rule reflects the advocacy efforts of NACWA and its members.

EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt announced Oct. 16 that the Agency would no longer engage in legal settlements with environmental activist groups that lead to new regulations or mandates.

NACWA is pleased to report that the Senate passed the bipartisan Water Infrastructure Flexibility Act (S.692) by unanimous consent on October 5. This legislation has been a top NACWA legislative priority and contains several provisions which will benefit Association members.
